Most families follow a tradition during the holidays; some bake cookies, while others decorate Christmas trees. Mystic has its own tradition during this time of year: The Olde Mystic Village Festival Of Lights.

For one night, people of all ages have the chance to tour the village, listen to carolers from nearby schools, buy presents, watch Santa play the saxophone, and enjoy the lights strung up on all of the buildings.

This year’s festival was held on Friday, December 8.  Chris Bishop, a mother of four from Voluntown, believed that the festival was great for everyone. “I’m here with my three year old and my seventeen year old, and everyone’s enjoying themselves,” said Bishop.

Mystic Aquarium partnered with the festival organizers to offer fun events including carols, sea life exhibitions, and a chance to see Santa Claus and his elves dive in with the animals.  Admission to the Aquarium was free with the donation of a canned food item.

Local mother, Tammy Kreyer said going to the aquarium was her favorite part of the festival. “They offered free admission, and I have two little ones who had never been before.”

Starting at dusk, the annual festival was a huge success for Mystic.  Mystic Aquarium counted over four thousand people in attendance.
