The Restaurant Chapter One in Mystic

Chapter One is a restaurant in Mystic that opened in August 2016 by Ken Fontaine and Daniel Van Kruningen. 

“Chapter one is an upscale casual dining experience with American cuisine [and] … an unmatched nightlife after 10pm,” said Johnny Pangelinah, operating Manager at Chapter One. 

Kruiningen and Fontaine named the restaurant Chapter One because the restaurant was a new chapter in their lives. The restaurant offers lunch, dinner, happy hour, brunch, and nightlife. They have a wide range of menu items like seafood, steaks, salads, burgers, and breakfast. 

At a restaurant that offers so much on their menu, managing the day-to-day operations can be quite involved. Johnny Pangelinah has been in the restaurant industry for 14 years. 

“Managing people you have to have strong leadership skills. I really enjoy working with people. I have a passion for coaching and developing individuals with aligned goals,” said Pangelinah. 

Keeping everything under control is part of leadership. Customers expect good service. Server, Martha Davis, who has been a server for 5 years, enjoys bringing joy to her customers. 

“My favorite thing about being a server is having my customers satisfied. It may be their first time coming to the restaurant. I want to make those moments memorable for them,” said Davis. 

The server’s service can affect the customer’s view on the restaurant. According to the National Restaurant Association, the majority of restaurants are successful due to their loyal customer base. A server who satisfies their customers wishes has a higher chance of them coming back. 

“It’s exciting, cozy, and welcoming. Coming here makes me feel like part of the family. I feel as though I am out of the house enjoying the day but doing it somewhere comfortable and safe,” said customer, Donna Vorrieter. 

Chapter One is a restaurant that has a large variety of food on their menu, and servers who want to make you have a good time.
