The Norwich Police Department recently added a new member to its force. Britain, a highly trained firearm detection dog, was added to the force due to the rising gun violence in the community.  Since covid, shooting investigations have doubled.  Police recognized the need for a more proactive policing tool. Britain, though friendly and approachable, demonstrates her skills, assisting her handler in locating firearms connected to homicides and large investigations. She works to strengthen community safety by removing weapons from the public. The partnership between Britain and her handler reflects the growing importance of specialized canine units in shaping future police work in Norwich.
