Coach Walker Cook started coaching the swim team as an assistant during the 2019-2020 swimming season. The following year he took over the head coach position from Cory Tubbs, who is currently the Girls Swim Coach. The NFA Boys Swimming Program currently operates as a “Co-Op” team, meaning they play alongside other schools – in this case East Lyme and Bacon Academy – as a combined team representing multiple schools.
Cook said his expectations are the same every season, that the athletes show some growth whether it’s getting a new best time, placing in an event, or becoming a leader on the team. He added that “Swimming is a sport that allows for both individual and team growth.”
The two Team Captains are Caleb Blanchard and Andrew Hickey. The team has also welcomed two new players; Christopher Mejia Osorio and Andres Rivadeneyra Serna.
There are some exciting meets that have already taken place; the Fitch Co-Op on January 13th, 2026 at 4:00pm at UConn – Avery Point, which was a win 90-80; and the Waterford Co-Op on January 20th, 2026 at 3:30pm in the East Lyme Aquatics Center, which was a win 93-77.
Cook thinks being in a Co-Op team gives the swimmers a better experience, and working with East Lyme gives the athletes a consistent location to swim and allows them to practice/compete with like minded swimmers, which allows students at NFA the chance to be competitive in the pool.
