Head Coach Raleigh Orszulak-Borecki, commonly referred to as “Coach O,” has been in charge of the Boys Volleyball Team for five seasons already, but her time as head of the team continues to be an exciting thing for her — even more so with this season’s upcoming games.
“We now have, this season, New London, Putnam, Woodstock, and Norwich Tech, (on the team’s schedule) so those are the games I’m most excited about because they’re local, and we’re trying to build within the ECC,” Orszulak said.
Coach O has high expectations for this year, hoping that this year will be a year for growth, especially now that they’re welcoming six new freshmen, seven new sophomores, and a variety of new juniors. Freshmen players include Carter Houser, Ben Savoie, and Cash Miner. Juniors include Colby Simons and Dwayne Smith. Coach O has also welcomed back returning players Landon Little and Mason Stolhammer, who have been named team captains for this year.
Little expressed his excitement for working and building a bond with all of the new (and old) players.“I like teaching, I like helping, I like being around the new kids [and] watching them grow from barely knowing how to play to learning how to hit, pass, set, and serve. It just makes me feel better about myself that I contributed to helping (them grow).”
Mason Stolhammer, the team’s other captain, expressed confidence for the season and is sure that his last season of volleyball at NFA will be a strong finish.
“I think people are definitely going to underestimate us when they see NFA, so we have nothing to lose. [We’ll] go out there and give it our best, because we are a force to be reckoned with…we’re gonna fight all the way through.”
The NFA boys volleyball team is looking forward to a great season, and it’s clear that our Wildcats are pumped up and ready to make this one a season to remember.
